New Post Entry Quarantine (PEQ) Facility – Melbourne
The new Post Entry Quarantine (PEQ) Facility in Mickleham Victoria, was officially opened last week, by the Hon. Barnaby Joyce MP – Minister for Agriculture & Water Resources.
The facility can accommodate a total of 80 horses, in two separate compounds, which contain 40 stables each.
Each compound has two barns fitted with 20 stables, a horse wash, feed preparation area, veterinary examination area and scales.
The total area of each compound is approximately four hectares which includes a series of yards and turnout paddocks allowing space for exercise.
The integrated veterinary facility means vets can provide a range of services (including surgery if needed) without the horse having to leave the site during its quarantine period.
Strict biosecurity requirements are managed using the integrated horse arrival zone, which has the ability to decontaminate vehicles delivering horses to the compounds.
Equine International Airfreight will be bringing in horses from 1st December 2015, with our quarantine groom, Nelson Bennett relocating to Melbourne to work with the new arrivals.
