Permanent Export Of Horses To Bahrain
All horses being permanently exported to Bahrain from Australia must complete the following:
- 30 Days Pre-export isolation at an approved quarantine stable in Australia controlled under veterinary supervision.
- Blood testing for EIA (Equine Infectious Anemia) and Hendra Virus for all horses.
- For Stallions and Colts blood testing for EVA (Equine Virus Arteritis) is also required.
- Vaccinations – twice for EI (Equine Influenza)
All blood tests must return a negative result from the testing laboratory to be eligable to travel.
Please note: that horses vaccinated against Hendra will return a positive Hendra test. These horses will not be accepted into the UAE or transit through to Bahrain. If you are planning on buying a horse for export, please ask if the horse is vaccinated against Hendra before purchasing it. Equine International Airfreight can check for you if a horse has been vaccinated against Hendra Virus if the horse in question has been micro-chipped.
The flu history of a horse is the main factor that will determine the shipping date. All horses must have an up to date flu vaccination record that consists of an original primary course showing that the second vaccination was administered 28 days after the first vaccination. It is also vital that the same vaccine is used each time. Additionally, the second vaccination must be administered within 30 days of departure, but not within 14 days of export to the UAE.
On arrival in the UAE all horses must undergo standard post-import quarantine. During this time all horses will be subject to further testing prior to being released to their final destination.
Current airline schedules do not allow for horses to fly direct to Bahrain. Horses bound for Bahrain must go via the UAE. If there are a sufficient number of horses to travel, a charter flight can be arranged to fly direct to Bahrain otherwise horses are transported from UAE either by road or air transport. Services to the UAE operate from either Sydney or Melbourne International Airports.
All blood testing and swabbing prior to shipment will be co-ordinated by EQUINE INTERNATIONAL AIRFREIGHT, as will all export paperwork. If you are interested in exporting a horses to BAHRAIN, please contact our office for further information.
